Paul Stoneman and I took walk to Petworth Railway station in January 2008

Along the way we pass a lovely looking lodge house at Burton Hill

This tree has an enormous trunk!

Paul tries to demonstrate that he isn't really that fat.

Petworth Station from the road bridge. The plus green garden is where the track would have been.

View from the bridge

The Old Station House at petworth

An orginal print of the station, photographed in the waiting room.

Petwoth Station

Before and after of the main waiting room

A view across the waiting room - very elegant.

I think these were old receipts found wher the renevation was underway

Inside the old waiting room - this is where the old ticket hatch would have been.

An old churn

An old sign

Cheep travel - if you could afford it in those days

Ah, thats a bette rate!

The plan of the station

You can't see Petworth as it is 3 miles to the north, but the line is still working here - so 1960ish

A lamp - probably not originally located at Petworth, but who knows...

Getting on for lunch time...

The restoration certainly gives atmosphere of times gone by.

Smug

Tea

Mother!

Cheeky

In my element - a nice cup of britsh tea - note the glazed left eye!

Vainly looking for books

The workers working on the line.

The platform today

The Pullman cars - now available to hire for overnight stays. Very nice.

Two berths per carriage at £150 a night in the summer per person!

What time do we arrive?

The boys!

This one is not quite ready!

Step back in time!

A tramp

Nice logo

The suspension is a bit knackered

A sign

The hotel reception today - which is not actually how you would have seen it in the years gone by

The railway cottages

The river Rother

The River Rother flows under the road bridge adjacent to the approach to the station

The lower bridge approaching the station

Leading from the station to the Railway Inn Hotel

The nearby pub - now modern and over priced!

This was the Railway Inn -

A pint and a rest for the old boy

Cheers

Petworth Beam Pump - with the river Rother behind

A proud house next to the beam pump

Close to the beam pump

A pump I assume

Side of the mill

A sign and door - but you can see that!

An old mill stone

Other side of the mill - I assume there was a water wheel here to turn the mill stones

New hat!

Without the hat - thanks for viewing the pictures!
